Learn What It’s Like to Fish for Lobster
Want to see lobsters up close and personal? Head down to the end of Bowen’s Wharf in historic Newport and climb aboard the 50′ Maine-built wooden lobster boat F/V Northeastern for your 90-minute marine adventure! You’ll motor out to some of the best lobster fishing grounds in New England and watch how lobster traps are hauled up from the sea floor. Then, you’ll get to work helping the crew sort the catch, throwing the small lobsters back into the sea, and re-baiting the traps.
Learn what’s it’s like to be a lobsterman on beautiful Narragansett Bay from Capt. Rob DeMasi, a commercial lobsterman who set as many as 1,200 traps from north of Rocky Point to Deep Hole – 30 miles southeast of Point Judith. His in-depth knowledge of marine biology and the fishing industry comes from years of bringing fish, shellfish and lobsters to local markets. Call for tickets and schedule information.
Why we love it: It’s a part sightseeing, part “roll up your sleeves” lobster learning adventure!
