Lighthouse Point Park – Scenic and fun for the Family

View the Lighthouse, Ride the Carousel and Enjoy the Beach!

Enter Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven and you’ll have a wonderful day by the Long Island Sound.   Make your way over to the New Haven Lighthouse also known as the Five Mile Point Light since it sits on a point of land five miles from the New Haven Green and witness a historic, 70 foot tall sandstone structure that once guided ships into the harbor!

For a small fee,  kids and kids at heart will enjoy riding an old-fashioned carousel – one of less than 100 in use today.  And, there’s more at this wonderful community gathering place.  There’s a playground and swings, a new splashpad, a fishing pier for recreational fishing, a boat and kayak launch, a concession stand, a public beach for swimming and plenty of tables and shaded pavilions for a picnic at the park.  Of course, we suggest you flip flop over to the beach and enjoy a lobster roll lunch and a bag of chips right on the sand! {Photo Credit: Jeremy D’Entremont, New England Lighthouses}

Why we love it:  Spend an hour or the day.  Look for the Penney Press so you can make your own lighthouse or carousel souvenir!
