Wharf Gallery & Grill – Fresh From the Lobsterman Who Owns the Shack!

From Trap to Plate

The Wharf Gallery & Grill is located in beautiful Corea, Maine, and is owned by sixth generation Mainer and lobsterman Joe Young. Here you’ll find a place that time forgot and enjoy a freshly prepared lobster roll on Joe’s wharf where you can take in the working harbor and all of its sights and sounds. Once you’ve located Corea a short 10 minute jaunt from Route 1, you’ll pass the Corea post office and only intersection where you can find the village’s only stop sign. Drive past the post office and you’ll find our open flag and Maine Gifford’s ice cream sign on the left where you can park along Gibbs Lane.

As you approach the Wharf Gallery & Grill, you will be met by the sight of rope rugs, a cool breeze, and  friendly staff. Favorites from the menu include lobster rolls, boiled lobster dinner, crab claws, steak and cheese, sausage with green peppers and onions, and our very own lobster grilled cheese (imitated but never duplicated). You won’t want to leave the picnic tables that have perfect views of the harbor, so save room for a piece of blueberry pie, a whoopie pie, or some Maine Gifford’s ice cream.  This lobster shack may be off the beaten path, but Joe prefers it that way. You won’t be disappointed!

Why we love it:  This place is pure Maine.  Plus, enjoy photographs of Downeast and Acadia of the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s!

Thurston’s Lobster Pound – Five Generations

Enjoy Your Lobster Overlooking Lobster Boats

With a long and charming history, FW Thurston Company, was started in 1946 when Fred Thurston purchased property from another family member.  Since then, the dock on Bass Harbor has sold fuel, bait, and supplies to local fishermen, while serving as a space to purchase the lobsters that they haul in.

The restaurant started out as a tiny kitchen and just 12 tables under a bright yellow awning. With a simple but delicious menu, and a friendly, laid back atmosphere, Thurston’s Lobster Pound is a popular spot for the summer tourist crowd and locals alike. Fresh local lobsters served with a smile, a salty breeze, and a view of the boats that brought them in, is what Thurston’s has always been about.

Why we love it: Two sizes of lobster rolls.  Get a fork for the big one!
